Second Saturday Contradance
A new community dance series presented by Folk Horizons is held every second Saturday beginning Sat, March 12th, 2011. The evening will be primarily contradances - a social dance form originally from New England. Dances are presented by a caller with music from a live band of traditional folk musicians. The caller for the series is Kirkland resident Laura Me’ Smith. The band will vary from month to month. A walk-through is provided for each dance. Attending with a partner is not necessary. Beginner contradance instruction starts at 7:30p and the dance gets into full swing by 8p. Free ice cream is provided during the break! Yoga for Beginners
Join Debra Clark on Mondays at 7 PM for a gentle Hatha Yoga class. This is the slow, stretchy-bendy kind of yoga. Learn to watch your breath, stretch and strengthen your body, and become consciously more powerful, yet more relaxed. We start by going inward, learning to watch our breath as it moves in our body, and how to move past the chatter in our mind. Then we move our body into and out of beginner-level poses. We move into a pose, and learn to relax our mind while we hold the pose briefly. Then we slowly move out of the pose and draw the awakened energy into our body, where we can use it to calm our mind and lift us up. We finish with a final relaxation phase, where we lie still and let the energy of our efforts soak into our body, healing both body and mind, and bringing us peace.

Ready to get started? Bring a mat. Eat lightly an hour or two before class. Wear comfortable clothes. Clothes you can stretch in. Clothes you can breath in. Arrive a few minutes early to sign-in and get settled. Your first class is free. Drop-in rate is $15/class. Or purchase a card and get 4 classes for $40.
